San Pedro del Pinatar vindicates equal opportunities on International Women's Day 2019 (08/03/2019)

The City of San Pedro del Pinatar today commemorated the International Women's Day with the reading of the official manifesto, by the mayor, reading the winning stories of the short story contest "For equality between women and men" and the exhibition of the photographs of the contest "with M de Mujer".

The plenary hall of the City of San Pedro del Pinatar has hosted today the institutional event of International Women's Day, which has included the reading of the official manifesto, the opening of the photo exhibition "Con M de Mujer" and the reading of the winning stories of "For equality between men and women".

The act has started with the intervention of the Councilor for Equality, Guadalupe García, who has stressed the need to continue working together to eliminate any kind of inequality and, as a priority, gender violence, in any of its expressions , as the biggest manifestation of this discrimination.

For its part, the mayor said that "the right to equality must be inculcated from childhood, being the best way to ensure that in the future men and women coexist in an egalitarian and supportive manner, so it is necessary to strengthen education in values ​​".

The mayor has concluded that only a totally egalitarian society will be achieved "when in the world, women are treated with social justice, equity and equality".

Subsequently, the prizes of the "For the equality between men and women" contest have been awarded, in which 21 high school and high school students of the Manuel Tárraga Escribano IES, New Castelar College and the CEC San Pedro Apóstol participated.

The first prize, worth 100 euros for sports equipment, went to Alejandro Cabrera Martínez, a second-year student at the CEC San Pedro Apóstol for his story '17 of October 1848 ', in which he recovers the figure of Concepción Arenal, as an example in the struggle for gender equality.

The second prize, worth 50 euros in sports equipment, has been for his story "The World In Reverse", Gustaw Miller, second student of ESO and has been granted an honorable mention to Elena Sáez, second ESO of IES Manuel Tárraga Escribano, for his work "The seller of potions."

After reading these stories, the prizes were awarded to the winners of the eighth edition of the "Con M de mujer" photography contest, in which 144 photographs from 72 participants from different parts of the world attended.

The exhibition can be seen in the press room attached to the plenary hall.

The first prize, worth 200 euros, went to Juan Miguel Miñarro Hernández, resident of San Pedro del Pinatar, with the photograph "Mujeres: Como pez en el agua", also an image of the schedule of the 8th of March.

The photograph "Impulse", by Francisco Javier Ruiz, has obtained the second prize, endowed with two nights of hotel and spa circuit in a hotel in the town.
