The Plenary Session of San Pedro del Pinatar approves requesting the declaration of an area seriously affected by the Civil Protection Emergency for the municipality (16/09/2019)

The City Council has also enabled an office for those affected by torrential rains to assist them in the processing of aid that will be open from 09:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar has approved a motion, presented jointly by all political groups, to request the Central Government to declare an area seriously affected by a Civil Protection Emergency, formerly called a catastrophic zone, for the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, after the effects of torrential rains on September 12 and 13.

During that episode, San Pedro del Pinatar registered 230 liters of water per square meter in just 24 hours, which caused devastating effects in the municipality, since that time the single emergency telephone number 112 had more than 300 incidents.

More than 150 streets were completely flooded, around 250 families have been affected by water and mud that have flooded their homes and basements, 85 shops and stores have suffered material damage and around 80 vehicles have been rendered useless by the effects of temporary.

The beaches and the area of ​​cultivation of the locality have been other of the great harmed by the "cold drop" that seriously affected the Mar Menor.

To all this we should add the negative effects in sectors such as tourism or damage caused in municipal buildings and infrastructure, urban furniture, green areas, playgrounds, public facilities, etc.

The rapid and effective action and coordination of the different bodies and estates involved in this Emergency situation, such as members of Civil Protection, of the Association of Civil Protection volunteers, Local Police, Municipal Warehouse, Civil Guard, Firefighters, Agents of Environment Rural, and of the Military Emergency Unit, managed to attend quickly and effectively to those affected by the storm.

The mayor, Visitación Martínez, and the spokespersons of the different political groups agreed to praise the operation of this operation, which for 80 hours worked tirelessly in the Emergency situation, and applauded the solidarity of individuals and companies that were put from the minute 0 available to the City Council to assist in cleaning, water drainage, etc.

On the other hand, after a coordination meeting of the different municipal services, a care office for those affected by the storm has been set up, which is provided on the first floor of the City Council (Tel 968 18 06 00 Ext. # 1111) of 09 : 00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., until Thursday, September 20, and Friday, September 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
