San Pedro del Pinatar celebrates its roots in FITUR 2017 with the fishing and pilgrimage of the Virgen del Carmen (18/01/2017)

The municipality bets on the International Tourism Fair of Madrid for the tradition and the marine roots, with the commemoration of the 125 anniversary of the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of the Carmen and a new tourist product that invites the visitor to know the sea and the gastronomy of The hand of local fishermen and restaurateurs.

The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Tourism, Silvia Egea, presented today at the stand of the Region of Murcia in FITUR the tourist offer of the town for this campaign, which brings together the commemoration of the 125th anniversary Of the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of the Carmen and a tourist experience that joins fishing and gastronomy.

At the opening of the event a video of images of the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of the Carmen has been projected, a tour of the festival of July 16 from the mass of the campaign at the dawn return of the image, passing through the land pilgrimage and The maritime procession.

The mayor has also presented the commemorative poster of this 125th anniversary of the Virgen del Carmen Pilgrimage, an act that was born on July 16, 1892 and currently congregates thousands of people every year in San Pedro del Pinatar, Is promoting, from different institutions, its declaration as a National Tourist Interest.

Visiting Martínez has highlighted the origins of San Pedro del Pinatar, a coastal town that has grown on the shores of two seas, around sectors such as fishing and, subsequently, tourism and trade.

Martinez has described the fervor and devotion that every July 16 is lived in the municipality, a feeling that starts in the church of St. Peter the Apostle, with the first "Salve Marinera" that the fishermen sing to their patron saint before taking her shoulders and Start the journey to the sea.

A hymn that is repeated on the altars that are adorned along the route from the Plaza de la Constitución to Lo Pagan, where the Virgin is greeted with joy and the din of a tronaire who announces her shipment.

In the maritime pilgrimage, where the Virgin sails on board one of the fishermen's boats of the Brotherhood, the minute of silence and the prayer for the men who die at sea, which ends with a carnation offering, is especially emotional.

Later a mass of campaign is celebrated in the Fisherman's Palace and the image is taken to the church of Our Lady of the Carmen in Lo Pagán, from where the procession will begin of return after the midnight.

Visitation Martínez has extolled the work of the Fishermen's Guild, founded in 1917 and in charge of organizing the maritime procession, and the Association of the Virgin of Carmen, whose existence dates back to 1923 and organizes religious and cultural events.

Thus, it has announced that the City Council is preparing a specific program, in the hands of both groups, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Romería, with the aim of vindicating this festival, its roots and cultural value, as well as its tourist attraction.

FISHING AND GASTRONOMY

Subsequently, the mayor has presented a new tourism experience, framed in the campaign Paraíso Salado, in which the visitor is invited to know the sea and indigenous gastronomy from a new perspective.

From the hand of local fishermen and restaurateurs, the tourist is invited to embark on a fishing trip to know the surroundings, a sea full of life in which they emphasize species such as sea bream, sea bass, salmon, or the coveted prawn Of the Mar Menor, products of great flavor and quality.

After fishing alongside the fishermen, there will be a well-deserved reward for the tourist, who can enjoy their catch in one of the restaurants in the area, where they will cook the fish that only a few hours earlier was in the sea.

To show this experience, chef Pablo González-Conejero, a banner of the cuisine of Murcia in front of the restaurant La Cabaña, which counts among many awards with a Michelin star, made a gastronomic demonstration with fish from the Mar Menor.

The public has been able to enjoy seabass and sea bass from the Mar Menor, in a dish with different ingredients of native gastronomy such as paprika, roe and mojama or salt from the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar.
