The City Council addresses the remodeling of the urban center by the citizens (31/03/2017)

The mayor, Visitation Martinez, and the councilor of Urbanism, Pedro Javier Sánchez, together with municipal technicians, yesterday presented at an information meeting two models for the reform of the urban center, which will be put to a vote in a participatory process.

The House of Culture hosted last night an informational meeting on proposals for accessibility and modernization of the urban center of San Pedro del Pinatar, with the aim of transferring to neighbors and merchants the lines of action that the City Council plans for this area, starting from The conclusions of several participatory processes developed since 2011.

The mayor, Visitation Martinez, explained that the model proposed by the City Council is drawn from participatory processes such as those carried out in 2011 for the renewal of the General Urban Planning Plan and the most recent participatory workshops of 2016 to attend the call for funds (EDUSI), in which the citizens transferred the need to reform the urban nucleus, improve its accessibility, change the sidewalks and give a rearrangement of the traffic on foot and on the road.

Thus, the City Council proposes the remodeling of the urban center in three phases, one of which would be to provide the Spanish squares and the Constitution with greater breadth, accessibility and functionality.

Another phase would take place in the Artero Guirao Avenue, with a new, more homogeneous sidewalk and the elimination of architectural barriers.

The plan also includes an integral action in the commercial streets of the center with replacement of pavements and curbs.

During the meeting with neighbors and merchants, the remodeling of the two plazas was mainly approached, presenting two options for reform.

The first of these would involve the union of both places, eliminating traffic in the crossing between the two, providing citizens with more space for recreation and improving accessibility to the center.

In addition, it would change the direction of the traffic in the street Gabriel Cañadas to favor the access and circulation to the zone.

The second option would be to improve the accessibility of both places and surrounding streets, changing the paving of the same and leaving the sidewalks to the same level, but keeping the pace of current traffic on all roads.

The City Council will soon develop a participatory process to collect the opinion of the neighbors on these two models, to develop subsequently a reform project.

All citizens registered in San Pedro del Pinatar, over 18 years of age, may participate in this process.

To do this, an online questionnaire will be activated, where they must register with their ID number.

There will also be two positions of attendance in municipal buildings.
