The Community launches a campaign aimed at schoolchildren to boost the nautical activity in the Mar Menor (19/04/2017)

The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment seeks to boost the nautical activity in the Mar Menor through discounts and special promotions for students of colleges and institutes throughout the Region.

This was announced this morning by the acting councilor, Juan Hernandez, after meeting with the mayors of the municipalities of the Mar Menor and businessmen of the nautical sector.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Education and Universities lead this initiative, which also collaborates the municipalities of Los Alcazares, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier and Cartagena.

The campaign will offer groups of schoolchildren half-day or full-day excursions with a 50 percent discount in light sailing, canoeing, stand up paddle (SUP) and windsurfing activities, in a total of 21 nautical schools spread out On the coast of these four municipalities.

The promotion, which will continue until June, is aimed at a total of 600 public schools and 149 concerted, and will be able to benefit from the offer a maximum of 21,000 school children.

There will be two types of groups: from seven to 11 years old and over 12 years old, which will have a minimum of 25 participants and a maximum of 50.

According to the councilor, "it is a campaign aimed at boosting the municipalities of the Mar Menor by supporting the nautical tourism companies that could have suffered more directly the negative impact of the information of the last year on the state of the lagoon" .

"We want to eliminate the uncertainty that can still be lodged around the current state of the Mar Menor, currently safe and in the process of recovery, as well as highlighting its suitability as a preferred destination to enjoy the sea and nautical activities," he added. Juan Hernández.

Likewise, the action will serve to promote awareness among the Murcia itself and to help to seasonalise the destination.

High occupancy at Easter

The Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, used this morning the contact with the media to report on the results of occupation of Holy Week.

Mar Menor hotel establishments have touched the full flood, obtaining an occupation of 97 percent, 11 points more than last year.

"These historical results support the sweet moment of regional tourism, as well as the excellent evolution of the Mar Menor during the first months of the year. In addition to the destinations of sun and beach, another of the options most demanded have been spas, which have reached 99 percent occupancy, 2 points more than the previous year.

In total, the hotel establishments of the Region of Murcia have reached an occupation of 94 per cent during Easter, two points more than the previous year.

Between the coast, cities and resorts 120,600 overnight stays were recorded, 2.7 percent more than in 2016.
