The Region will reach this year the 270,000 overnight stays of tourists attracted by its health and wellness offer (31/08/2017)

The Region of Murcia will reach 270,000 overnight stays of 90,000 tourists attracted by its health and wellness offer, which will mean a growth of 5,000 compared to last year, when 264,235 were reached with the arrival of 87,809 people attracted by this tourist offer .

This was stated today by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, in the visit of the Thalasia Costa de Murcia complex, which has 213 rooms and a thalassotherapy spa of 4,500 square meters and recovers the use of the living waters of the Mediterranean, with a special concentration in minerals thanks to its hypersalinity, which allows health and wellness treatments.

"Tourism linked to health treatments is an upward trend and is a product that we have been working from the Autonomous Community with a group of companies since 2015, attracting more tourists each day," said Celdrán.

Under the brand 'Costa Cálida Cares', the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment promotes health tourism in the region, which includes, in addition to traditional thalassotherapy centers, spas and spa, also hospitals and private clinics , Thus configuring a broader and more demanded product throughout the year.

During 2016, the Institute of Tourism carried out 101 promotional actions in which the health product was present, nine of them developed in international markets like Russia, United Kingdom and Sweden.

This year, the main objective of the Ministry is to strengthen the arrival of health tourists, both nationally and internationally.

Among the markets are travelers from Russia - considered the first country to send tourists to Spain for stays related to health and wellness products - Germany, Nordic countries and the United Kingdom.

The group of companies 'Costa Cálida Cares' is currently formed by Thalasia Costa de Murcia-Medical Spa, the hotel establishments Balneario de Archena, Centro Vital Aguas Salinas, Hotel Lodomar Spa & Thalassotherapy, Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel Marina & Spa , Mar Menor Golf Resort & Spa and La Manga Club Resort Sport & Leasure.

Hospitals include the Mesa del Castillo, Virgen de la Caridad Medical Center and La Vega Hospital HLA Group, as well as the Imartours travel agencies.

Hosting linked to product for greater profitability

The counselor highlighted the possibilities to ensure that hotels in the Costa Cálida link their accommodation offer to products such as health tourism, sports or gastronomy "to break the seasonality and be profitable throughout the year, maintaining its activity and positions work".

In this regard, Celdrán highlights the work of Thalasia Costa de Murcia, which in addition to its own facilities for health and well-being, has established alliances and collaborations with Pinatar Arena to accommodate 60 football teams who come to perform their 'stages' in the Mar Menor or participate in the 15 international operations of the Institute of Tourism in nine countries linked to sun and beach, golf and tourism products: United Kingdom (3), Czech Republic (3), Sweden (2), Bulgaria (2) , France (1), Portugal (1), Denmark (1), Finland (1) and The Netherlands (1).
