San Pedro del Pinatar vindicates the struggle of women in favor of equal opportunities (08/03/2018)

The City of San Pedro del Pinatar today commemorated International Women's Day with the reading of the official manifesto, by the mayor, reading the winning stories of the short story contest "For equality between women and men" and of the photography awards "with M de Mujer".

The plenary hall of the City of San Pedro del Pinatar has hosted today the institutional event of International Women's Day, which has included the reading of the official manifesto, the opening of the photo exhibition "Con M de Mujer" and the reading of the winning stories of "For equality between men and women".

The act has started with the intervention of the Councilor for Equality, Guadalupe García, who has recalled the achievements in favor of gender equality for women since this day is commemorated and highlighted the participation in the initiatives promoted by the council to commemorate this day.

For its part, the mayor said that today is a day "to make visible the work and effort of so many women who, individually and collectively, fight from different areas to ensure that women and men enjoy the same opportunities."

He also reiterated that equality "requires a permanent commitment and work that must also be an expression of the sum of the wills and actions of public authorities, civil society organizations and citizens, only in this way will it be possible to achieve real and build a society firmly based on the pillars of equality and democracy. "

Subsequently, the prizes of the "For the equality between men and women" contest, in which 17 secondary and high school students of the IES Manuel Tárraga Escribano, Dos Mares and the CEC San Pedro Apóstol have participated, were awarded.

The first prize, worth 100 euros for sports equipment, went to Carmen Moreno López, a second-year student at the San Pedro Apóstol Center, with the story "A ti, mujer", and the second prize went to "Los 18 de Seremu ", by Concepción Pardo Gracia, student of the first year of secondary school of the same center.

After reading both stories, the prizes have been awarded to the winners of the seventh edition of the "Con M de mujer" photo contest, in which 68 photographs from 32 participants from different parts of Spain have attended.

The exhibition can be seen in the press room attached to the plenary hall.

The first prize, worth 200 euros, went to the Clara Ferreiro Alvárez, resident in San Pedro del Pinatar, with the photograph "Equality between men and women", also an image of the schedule of the day of March 8.

The photograph "Love does not understand sex", by Antonio Ruiz Guerrero, has obtained the second prize, endowed with a hotel night and spa circuit in a hotel in the town.
