Austerity and resident participation are the cornerstones of this year's carnival pinatarense, which has eliminated the gala presentation and has opted for local associations for the programming of activities.

The councilman of Culture of the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, Mark David Grace, today introduced the activities of Carnival 2011, which will take place on 5 and 6 March.

The mayor pointed out that this year has reduced spending by more than 40,000 euros, eliminating the gala presentation of Carnival and the closing party at the sports hall, betting and by the austerity and the promotion of partnerships, collective and local groups.

In this regard, stressed the increase in participation in recent years, from eight troupes and 350 in 2007 to 18 troupes, with about 1,000 participants this year.

Grace has indicated that the goal is "to make a greater commitment to people and subtracting the material costs."

Carnival coordinator, Miguel Romero, explained that the activities will begin on Saturday 5 March, the Children's Carnival to be held from 17:00 hours on the streets of the Constitution and Spain, with different activities organized by the cultural association La Llana.

Thus, children's carnival will include a costume party contest and special prizes for children, games, parades, masks and animation workshops and a free children's fair for the participants.

The main event will pinatarense Carnival on Sunday March 6, with the traditional parade features more than 1,000 people and will go to the Esplanade of Lo Pagan, along the Avenue of the Generalissimo and Emilio Castelar, until you reach the square Spain, where participants will enjoy a party with chocolate mobile disk.

The parade includes 18 troupes, including 17 associations and groups in the municipality, in addition to the school salsa from El Pilar de la Horadada, which participates as guest troupe.

Among the associations, is the incorporation of Aideman and several schools in the municipality as well as the groups of increased participation, such as the Ballet Keban and Peña El Caldero, with over 100 participants in each.

Miguel Romero has also stressed the participation of six absolute muses and three children, in addition to the lineup of programming produced by local artist Eustaquio Espinosa.

The groups that have until 30 participants have received a grant of 350 euros to more than 30 people have been given 750 euros, and there have been 400 euros aid for children and 850 muses for the absolute.
