English and pinatarenses exchange their vision of the municipality in a bilingual activity (27/09/2011)

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez and Councilwoman Citizen Participation, Silvia Egea presented the initiative "Welcome to the other side of San Pedro del Pinatar / Welcome to the other side of San Pedro del Pinatar", part of the 175 anniversary of the establishment of City Hall.

Bilingual activity "Welcome to the other side of San Pedro del Pinatar" gathered yesterday to dozens of British citizens and pinatarenses in the center of the town's Social Services, where these groups exchanged their views on cultural differences between them and what are the first impressions upon arrival in San Pedro del Pinatar.

The mayor of the municipality explained that this activity scheduled by the Department of Citizen Participation, is included in the programming of the 175 anniversary of the establishment of the council with the aim of promoting dialogue between various groups and pick a different vision of the municipality.

In addition, the first mayor of the group said British involvement in the municipality, which represents 3 percent of the total population and develop initiatives through ADAPT associations, Neighbourhood Watch and Flamenco for all.

For his part, Councillor for Citizen Participation, Silvia Egea explained that this activity is also part in commemorating the Day of European languages, which falls on September 26 and thanked the cooperation of the participating associations and individuals.

The activity was developed from extracts of the storybook "The Adventures of Sid", with its author, Jane Cronin, who posed questions to the audience from the experiences of the British arrival in Spain.

Thus, participants expressed how they feel when they talk to a person of different language, which is what he calls the attention of the other culture or what are the main difficulties relate and adapt to the lifestyle of the municipality.

To facilitate this interaction, cards were distributed to attendees responded in each of these issues arose, and from there, it would be a fun bilingual conversation about the issues.
