Social Services offers training in Spanish, mental health and career counseling to immigrants (11/11/2011)

Local Program for Social Integration has initiated over the past month three workshops for adaptation and training of immigrants residing in the township.

The Department of Social Services, through the Local Program of Social Integration, this quarter has scheduled three workshops for learning Spanish, career guidance and preventing and addressing disorders such as anxiety, stress or depression.

So, last October 21 began the workshop in Spanish for daily life, led to a score of immigrant women who every Thursday until 9 December, receive basic training in Spanish language and culture.

The objective of this workshop is that immigrant women learn the basic vocabulary to function in their daily lives and facilitate their integration with the native population.

Therefore, the course is divided into seven modules that focus on vocabulary and expressions needed to communicate at school, supermarket, pharmacy, City Hall, the bank, health center or a restaurant.

The Mental Health workshop for immigrant women, which started last October 21 and is held every Tuesday through November 30, aims to identify the psychological and emotional problems that may have assistants, as well as raise awareness of the symptoms of mental disorders and teach techniques to achieve a healthy mental life.

Thus, during the course will address disorders such as stress, depression or anxiety, such as coping with traumatic experiences, what are the consequences of mental illness in the family and social environment and techniques for establishing mental health, among others.

The work orientation workshop for immigrants, which opened today, is to provide 15 participants with the necessary tools for finding employment during the months of November and December.

Among the contents of the course work on motivation and social skills of the participants, as well as identify their goals and objectives.

Also, be advised where to seek employment (job boards, SEF, temporary employment business, internet, etc.).

Finally, students will learn the basic tools for the job search, including resume, cover letter, the self-candidacy or response to a job advertisement.
