Holidays on the Mar Menor and the Salinas de San Pedro township schoolchildren (04/03/2014)

The Department offers a series of talks at nursery and primary school in the municipality focused on salt tradition of the town as well as the particularities of Salinas and its environment.

School third through fifth graders from schools San Pedro Apostle, Los Pinos, and this month Maspalomas know the characteristics of the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar and its importance in the history of the village.

The departments of Tourism and Education have scheduled the series "The Mar Menor and the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar," a series of talks in which it is intended that the students are aware of the special characteristics of this space, and traditions that have maintained over the years as the offices of fisherman and salt.

This activity also aims to make children aware of some protected species of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean and make them aware of how important salt mining for survival Arenales Salinas Natural Park and San Pedro.

During the talk, a brief reference to the Mar Menor and fishing, fish farms and sea horses, endangered species and sea grasses, other protected species that is abundant on the coasts of the Mediterranean beaches is performed.

Throughout the activity, in which children are actively involved, questions such as Where did the salt come from?, Since when salt is used?, What is?, Resolved What color is ?, how many types there are in the salt ponds of San Pedro?, and

How does the salt contained in the salt flats of San Pedro?.

Likewise stresses the importance of the salt activity for the survival of regional park and facts about salt and the local operation and the changes it has experienced over the years are counted.

In addition, during the development of the presentation to teach children some objects to be easier for them to assimilate these concepts, such as a hydrometer, a piece of raw salt, different kinds of salts, objects made from salt dough, etc..

This activity has also been adapted to students in early childhood education at the School of Early Childhood Education # 1 school and Hopes.

This series, organized by the departments of Education and Tourism, joins other activities taking place throughout the quarter in schools as talks on the Holy Week and Rome ..
