The AFEM Day center serves 21 people with mental illness del Mar Menor (27/08/2014)

The Murciano managers manage Institute of Social Action, Leopoldo Navarro, and the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitacion Martinez, today visited the day center facilities of the Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness del Mar Menor (AFEM)

The Directorate General of People with Disabilities, through the Instituto Murciano (IMAS) of the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, provides a total of 111 666 per year to cover ten of the 25 seats that comprise the Day Centre Association Families and Persons with Mental Illness del Mar Menor (AFEM).

Facilities at this center, opened a year ago and up to 25 people were visited today by the managing director of the IMAS, Leopoldo Navarro, who was accompanied by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitacion Martinez, president of the association Juana Romero, as well as other members of the local corporation and AFEM.

Navarro said that the regional government is "a priority" care for those with some classified as mental illness pathology, so stressed "the need to care for their families, offer quality care and to their integration and personal autonomy. "

During the visit to the facilities of the center, the director explained that the Directorate General of People with Disabilities has 3,554 seats to serve persons with disabilities of which 1,198 are residential and 2,356 in Day Centres.

In particular, in the field of Mental Illness, the IMAS plans to launch this year a total of 147 seats, mainly in the residential care service and in 2013 109 seats were created in different services for people with Mental Illness.

Today, in the Day Centre AFEM perform their work a social worker, a social educator, psychologist, professional nursing and monitor.

Thus, it is intended to provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of individual users of this facility.

The mayor praised the advocacy work carried out by this association, as well as their integration and participation in municipal activities with various initiatives such as workshops, sports activities, events, etc.

Subsequently, Leopoldo Martínez Navarro and Visitation also visited the Day Care Center Lo Pagan, which serves 25 people in a state of dependency.
