Thus, the bulk of the work will take place after the summer, the mayor stressed.

This infrastructure includes the first rainwater through a network of pipes and lead them to a storage tank.

Once past the storm, the waters are channeled to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The main function of this work is to prevent pollution of the Mar Menor, collecting rainwater first are those that wash contaminants residues that are deposited in the soil, resulting from road traffic, industrial and agricultural activities, and thus prevent the pollution can reach the beaches.

This action is part of a program of actions planned on a general level to achieve the environmental commitment of "Dumping 0" at the Mar Menor.

Carmen Sandoval explained that the work is now done because it is part of the Regional Plan Sanitation Water Directorate of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, funded by the Autonomous Community and the European Union through the Cohesion Fund, requiring the completion of the works in this year.

Regarding the choice for the construction of storm tank location has been noted that technically it was considered more appropriate to collect the largest amount of runoff reaching the Mar Menor and terrain features.

This work is the first phase of a larger project, consisting of several facilities in different areas of the municipality to address comprehensively the problem of floods rainwater and achieve environmental commitment to get "Dumping 0 to Mar Menor".
