An investment of one million euros converts the Russian House in San Pedro del Pinatar, in an ethnographic museum (24/07/2008)

The Minister of Tourism and Consumer Affairs, Jose Pablo Ruiz Abellán, accompanied by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, José García Ruiz, today inaugurated the restoration and rehabilitation of the Palace of Baron Benifayó, known as the House of Federation, which is devoted to ethnographic museum.

This action, which has had a budget of one million euros, has allowed the recovery of the facades and roofs, and ensure complete structural consolidation, while it has addressed the design of the various rooms for the development of museum programs, fully maintaining the original building of 550 square meters.

It is a rectangular building surmounted by higher bodies at the ends, with battlements and towers neomudéjar style, designed by architect Álvarez Capra Madrid in 1878, on behalf of Don Julio Falco d'Adda, Benifayó Baron and that, originally, was surrounded by pine trees, barns and garages, as well as small buildings such as a laundry, a well, a Ferris wheel, or a house for the caretakers, now missing.

The palace has had various uses, as the residence of Baron for manor house Condes de Villar de Felices, shelter refugees during the Civil War or summer residence, among others.

The work has been carried out has improved the conditions of the building, restore the most important elements of its structure and highlight its main historical and architectural features.

To this end, we have carried out restoration work of all the rooms, removing access to water, both in indoor and facades, new flooring, treatment of vertical and horizontal and facilities.

The bulk of the work consisted in the arrangement of the magnificent brick factories that decorate all the walls.

This has meant the physical cleaning of the surfaces, repair of all wood joinery, and jambs or sills lead, biocide treatment, the thinning and replacement of lost or damaged parts.

Were also carried out the work necessary for its new use as a museum, including new marble flooring macael, Plaster casts, interior or exterior carpentry, all installations and fire detection, facilities against theft, CCTV, PA facility, telephony and data, and electrical work and lighting, plumbing, sanitation and air conditioning.
