The Consumer Federation of Independent Members, (FUCI) has awarded the City of San Pedro del Pinatar Green Flag Award - City Manager in the methods of environmental commitment and environmental education and citizen participation.
Councillor for the Environment, Mark David Gracia Antolinos, received the award during a ceremony held on Friday 7 May at the Hotel Ritz, Madrid.
FUCI is a statewide association of private and non-profit structure as a collection of consumer groups in different geographical areas of the Autonomous Communities.
The president of FUCI, Agustina Laguna, noted that "the implementation of the announcement of these awards provide for the Federation a great effort, but also extremely pleased with it because we have the opportunity to meet, assess and highlight the commitment and the work local corporations for the environment and responsible consumption in their towns. "
Meanwhile, Joost Martens, director general of Consumers International, a global consumer members representing 220 organizations with a presence in 115 countries, also "particularly appreciates this initiative because it provides first hand the environmental reality of the Spanish municipalities by measuring the effort by corporations to benefit local people. "
The Mayor, José García Ruiz, has welcomed the granting of the award, since it represents the recognition of the municipal management made in environmental matters.
Furthermore, he assured that the recipient of the award is for their citizenship civics and active participation, contributing to the Consistory initiatives to improve the environmental quality of the municipality.
Finally, Alderman pointed out that the town is betting on their actions for environmental sustainability and the promotion of quality tourism.
Among the actions that have been assessed by FUCI recent awards include the Q for quality beaches that have received the Puntica and Villananitos, implementation being carried out in the Local Agenda 21, the activation and implementation Municipal Council on the Environment, promoting environmental education activities and the distribution of packs of recycled bags make it easy to retrain pinatarenses.
