The Center for Tourism Initiatives of San Pedro del Pinatar hosted on Monday, May 21, a work table attended by dozens of people related to the Mar Menor in the town, as associations, residents of the area of ​​Villananitos and Lo Pagan , tourism entrepreneurs, hoteliers, representatives of the Fishermen's Association, the Oceanographic Institute, the Mar Menor Nautical Station, and municipal technicians, among others.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, explained that the objective of this initiative is to put on the table the state of the Mar Menor, in the hands of ecology professor Ángel Pérez Ruzafa;
the actions that are being carried out from the administration, by the General Director of the Mar Menor, Antonio Luengo, and present an innovation project aimed at promoting sustainable tourism, under the E-blue seal, promoted by the European Center for Companies and Innovation in Murcia and Cartagena.
Thus, Ángel Pérez Ruzafa explained the current ecological status of the Mar Menor, analyzing its evolution for decades and how different pressure factors have influenced it.
The professor in Ecology indicated that the monitoring and monitoring of the Mar Menor is constant since 2016 and that in recent months there is a certain stability, with low levels of nitrates and chlorophyll, and reaching the best point of visibility, compared to last year .
Although he insisted on the need to "be cautious and not relax", since it is a weak balance, because the Mar Menor can be affected by other factors that modify these conditions, such as precipitation or a sudden rise in temperatures, as occurred in the last summer.
For his part, Antonio Luengo reported that the Strategy of Comprehensive Management of coastal areas of the Mar Menor is currently on public display, a document prepared with the different social sectors involved and that aims to have a unified and common instrument that collects actions to carry out in the lagoon to ensure its improvement and conservation.
Likewise, he summarized the different actions, projects and actions that are being carried out in the Mar Menor by the Regional Administration, among which the investment in scientific knowledge, awareness and environmental awareness programs, reduction and elimination were highlighted. of spills, the surveillance of illegal activities, or the creation of environmental tanks and green filters, among other measures.
Among the new initiatives, he highlighted the possibility of limiting the speed of navigation in shallow areas, the creation of sustainable spas in the southern part of the Mar Menor and the ecological anchorages in the islands.
The meeting ended with the presentation of the project 'E-Blue.
Blue employment for a better maritime-coastal tourism ', in charge of the representatives of the European Center for Enterprise and Innovation in Murcia (CEEIM).
This initiative, which has also been developed in the Bay of Cádiz, aims to promote sustainable tourism.
Thus, companies in the sector are encouraged to be part of the e-blue catalog, showing their commitment to sustainability and the quality of their tourism offer.
The project aims to train and advise entrepreneurs and professionals to improve the training and employability of workers in the sector in the management of internal and environmental processes of their activity to improve the protection of the maritime and coastal natural environment.
