The municipality extols its seafaring roots through a recital of poems and stories, concerts, performances, guided tours of the market and the traditional land pilgrimage and maritime procession, among other acts.
The program that takes place every year on the occasion of the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, begins this week and lasts until July 16, with several proposals coordinated by the Department of Tourism, the brotherhood of Fishermen and the Association of the Virgen del Carmen.
Thus, the Museum of the Sea will host on Thursday, July 5, a recital of poems, stories and music in honor of the Virgen del Carmen from 8:00 pm, with the participation of local writers.
The Music Unit of the General Air Academy will offer on Thursday, July 12, its traditional concert in honor of the 'Star of the Seas', which turns 13 years old.
In addition, on July 12 and 13 will be held at 11:00 and 12:00 hours, guided tours of the fish market, which will show the different fishing gear, the management of the networks, etc.
On Sunday, July 15, a sailboat race at La Puntica beach will take place around noon, with the aim of highlighting this traditional typical Mar Menor boat.
The folkloric club El Caldero joins this festival for another year, with the performance of the El Pinar choirs and dances, on Sunday 15, at 10:30 p.m. in the Parque del Mar Reyes in Spain.
The program is completed with the liturgical and traditional acts, such as the triduum to prepare the festival on July 11, 12 and 13, the offering to the Virgen del Carmen on Sunday July 15 in Lo Pagán, and the acts of the Brotherhood of the Virgen del Carmen and the Association of the Virgen del Carmen.
The acts will culminate on July 16, Day of the Virgin of Carmen.
The day will begin at 07:00 with the diana in charge of the band, in the streets of San Pedro and half an hour later in Lo Pagán with the band of cornets and drums.
At 08:00 it will be the celebration of the mass in the Plaza de la Constitución, with the performance of Fantasía Lírica and, at around 09:00 hours, the beginning of the terrestrial pilgrimage at 11:00 a.m. Lo Pagán where you embark to proceed to the maritime procession.
After the campaign mass, at 12:00 noon in the esplanade of the Fish Market and the transfer to the church of Lo Pagán, at midnight the image returns in procession to the Church of St. Peter the Apostle between cheers and the songs of Salve Marinera.
In addition, the photographic contest of the Festivities of the Virgen del Carmen, which will award two prizes of 200 euros for the best images of the procession and pilgrimage of the 16th of July, is being called again.
