Last Saturday, September 22, the sports center of San Pedro del Pinatar hosted the II Popular Triathlon, organized by the Sports Club 30740, the Federation of Triathlon of the Region and the Department of Sports, which involved 190 amateur athletes, many of which faced this type of test for the first time.
The triathlon, in supersprint distance, included 300 meters of swimming in the municipal pool, eight kilometers of cycling in a semi-urban circuit closed to traffic and 2,500 meters of running on foot that ended in the municipal cross circuit.
The competition was divided into categories of minors and absolutes with several departures that distinguished federated from non-federated.
As for the federated, the three men who formed the podium were Javier Nieto, Mandarache Athletics, who invested 33 minutes and 24 seconds;
Jorge Mulero, also from Madarache Cartagena, with a time of 34 minutes and 21 seconds;
and José Antonio Bastida, from the Guerrita Sewer Triathlon, who did it in 34 minutes and 31 seconds.
The fastest federated women were Irene Sánchez, from Trirunner Pozo Estrecho, who invested 39 minutes and 6 seconds, followed by Ana Belén Lentijo, from Bitec Tri Impulso, with 39 minutes and 43 seconds.
The third place went to Raquel Gálvez, from Táder Molina, with 44 minutes and 15 seconds.
As for the popular, which for many proved to be his first time in this discipline, the winner of the men's category was Juan Carlos Andrino, who stopped the clock in 34 minutes and 13 seconds.
In second position came Jaime González (35:03) and Guillermo Campoy (35:33) who occupied the third place.
The popular female podium was formed by Ángeles Fernández who raised the winner with a time of 41 minutes and 38 seconds.
She was followed by María Carmen Ferrándiz, who reached the second position (41:51) and Marina Lledó (43:54) who occupied the third place.
As for the minors, the fastest fry to cross the finish line were Sandro Alcaraz, of the Club Tritones Murcia Sport Club, with a time of 17 minutes and 29 seconds, followed by his teammate Lope Valero (17:40) , and of Ancor García (18:24), of the San Jorge Club.
In female alevín, the podium was formed by Eva Mª Sánchez, of the Club Triathlon Cartagena, who invested 18 minutes and 45 seconds, Cinta Nicolás (19:06), of the Tritones Murcia Sport Club, and Silvia Ortín (19:16).
In the children's category, the male podium was formed by Pablo León, from the Caravaca Triathlon Club, which finished with a time of 30 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by Brando Wales (30:46), from Tritones Murcia, and Salvador Martínez (31:07), of the Mandarache Cartagena Athletics.
The women's podium was formed by María María Navarro, from CT Arabí Yecla Catlike, with a time of 32 minutes and 42 seconds, followed by Lola Sánchez (32:59), from Tritones Murcia, and Marta Gil (37:18), of the Eagle Águilas Primaflor.
The male cadet category had a podium integrated by triathletes of the Caravaca Triathlon Club, Jesús Montoya, who invested a time of 28 minutes and 55 seconds.
He was followed by Diego Vicente (30:08) and Sebastián del Amor (30:22).
As for the women's podium, the fastest to cross the finish line was Paula López, of Club San Jorge, with a time of 34 minutes and 43 seconds, who was followed by her teammate Marta Sánchez (35:36) and Lucía Gómez (37:51), from AD Cehegín.
