The Edukalo program, established six years ago in San Pedro del Pinatar, is based on a program of socio-educational workshops, as well as academic and school follow-up.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the president of the Autonomous Federation of Gypsy Associations (FAGA) in the Valencian Community, Ramón Fernández Fernández, today signed a collaboration agreement for the development of Edukalo educational support program, in collaboration with the councils of Education and Volunteering.
Under this agreement, the Edukalo plan is included in the measures of the Municipal Plan for Prevention and Control of Absenteeism (PAE), through six-hour weekly social-educational workshops with a total of 25 Roma children and mediation with centers and families.
For the development of these workshops, which take place in the Center of Arts and Emerging Arts, FAGA has the collaboration of the Local Volunteer plan.
In addition, the Department of Education has donated school materials for the work of children included in this program.
This project is, since this year, fully funded by the Ministry of Equality and Social Policy of the Region of Murcia, with 22,458 euros, through the social projects of the X Solidaria of IRPF.
Visitación Martínez has highlighted the good result that this program has had among the gypsy students in San Pedro del Pinatar over the years, which, at a global level, amounts to 216 children and young people attending different levels of education.
