All the political groups that make up the Municipal Corporation have signed a joint motion to promote, together with the Fishermen's Association, this distinction for the products that are captured in the lagoon.
The Plenary Session of the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar has unanimously approved a joint motion of Citizens, Popular Party, Socialist Party and Win San Pedro, to urge the declaration of protected geographical indication (PGI) for shrimp and seabream of the Mar Menor , thus adding to the work developed by the fishermen's fraternity to obtain this distinctive quality, which will offer the differentiation of these products, highlighting their qualities and characteristics linked to the Mar Menor.
To this end, the signatories urge the Regional Government to develop media-driven actions for these products, advice on the application of this quality mark (PGI), the promotion, through the European Maritime Fisheries Fund, of aid to the regional fisheries sector , and greater control of poaching in the Mar Menor environment.
The full month of December of the City of San Pedro del Pinatar, where the budget for the year 2019 has also been approved, has begun with a minute of silence of all corporate in memory of José Ballester Martínez, mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar between 1970 and 1972 and recently deceased.
