The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, today received the baton from Antonio Tárraga Escribano, who was mayor of the town between 1939 and 1943, from Francisco Genaro García, a local resident who gave it to the City Council, after acquiring it recently in an antique house.
Visitación Martínez thanked the generosity of this entrepreneur from Pinar del Rio and his important contribution to the recovery of the local heritage, through this disinterested cession.
The baton of Antonio Tárraga Escribano dates from 1.941, two years after the beginning of his mandate.
The knob, plated in gold, has inscribed the initials of the then mayor and the date of June 13, 1941, which coincides with his name day.
The recovery of this object, of great historical value, has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the municipal museum Baron de Benifayó dependent on the Department of Culture, and the association Friends of Museums.
