The President of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, highlighted the commitment of the regional executive for sports tourism with 365 events in 2019, which will bring almost 200,000 people and will account for 2 million overnight stays.

The head of the Murciano Executive, visited next to the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, and the manager of Pinatar Arena, Mariano Sánchez, the facilities of this sports complex that since 2013 has hosted more than 500 concentrations of teams and selections of 72 different countries, organizing about 1,000 matches.

During the visit, Fernando Lopez Miras, stressed that this year, "sports tourism will beat record in the region to host 365 events that will bring almost 200,000 people and will account for 2 million overnight stays, thanks, not only to athletes who participate in any competition, but golf tourism and also pre-season stays or sports stages ".

In 2018, only sports venues attracted 321 teams to the Region, which accounted for 9,713 athletes of 28 nationalities.

According to the president, in 2019 "we are going to launch a promotional campaign to reach sports federations in Europe and also in Asian countries, to attract teams from this continent, whose concentrations represent stays of one month".

"We want them to know the Region and choose it to stay to practice sports and make their preseason stays," said the president, who remarked that we have quality sports facilities, high performance centers, complementary services and above all a unique climate that allows perform sports throughout the year

"Example of these quality infrastructures are - said López Miras - the installations of the 'Pintar Arena' complex, one of the best ambassadors of our Region".

The president recalled that last year the Community recognized this complex in the Sports Merit Awards of the Region of Murcia, in the category of 'Best sport management work'.

During the first quarter of 2019 Pinatar Arena will host more than 80 teams from different countries, including European first division teams such as Newcastle, Genoa or Lyon, and sub 15, sub17, sub 19 or sub 21 national teams. like Spain, England, Hungary or Uzbekistan, which currently performs its stage in the Murcia complex.
