The weather and wind conditions of the salt lake have been key for this team of the international sailing elite to choose it as a training camp.
The English team Ineos has chosen the Mar Menor to carry out their training in preparation for the Copa América, which in 2021 will celebrate its 36th edition in New Zealand.
It is the most important sailing competition in the world.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, accompanied by the Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the President of the Nautical Club of Lo Pagán, Mariano Galera, welcomed the Ineos crew, composed of more than 35 people, who will prepare for three months the next appointment of the 'Nautical Formula 1'.
For the Regional Executive the reasons for the landing of the English team in the salt lake are the "exceptional" weather conditions, regional incentives for marinas that host activities related to water sports and the opening of the airport.
Patricio Valverde stressed that this is the first time that a team of the Copa América has prepared this competition in the waters of the Mar Menor and indicated among the reasons for this choice "the exceptional weather that makes the Region of Murcia a unique destination to enjoy this sport and the Mar Menor the best racing field in the world ".
For its part, Visitación Martínez stressed the importance for the Mar Menor of generating positive news, such as the presence of Ineos in the municipality, and recalled the commitment of the local government for nautical and sports tourism, as fundamental pillars for the deseasonalization of the sector.

'Ineos Team UK' will represent the Royal Yacht Squadron Racing in the international competition and has a budget of more than 100 million euros which is financed by one of the largest manufacturing groups in the world and the largest engineering company in Great Britain.
He is captained by Sir Ben Ainslie who has been the sailor who has won the World Sailing Federation of the Year (ISAF) World Cup Winner of the Year and who was already at the head of the Land Rover team in the last edition of the Cup.
