The local association Kalochí Kaló, the local Gypsy Development program and the Fundación Secretariado Gitano have coordinated the commemorative activities of April 8.
The councilor for Citizen Participation, Fuensanta García, accompanied by the president of the Kalochi Kaló Association, Felicidad Cortés, representatives of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, and the head of the Gypsy Development program, Esther González, presented the commemorative activities of April 8 , Day of the Gypsy People.
Fuensanta García highlighted the importance of the gypsy community in the locality, and the different actions carried out by the City Council to favor its inclusion and break myths and stigmas, preserving the identity and values ​​of its culture, through the Local Gypsy Development Program , coordinated by the Department of Social Services, and with the support of associations such as Kalochí Kaló or FAGA, which contribute to this purpose with their proposals.
For its part, Felicidad Cortés explained that the International Day of the Roma People has been held since 1971 with the aim of fighting against discrimination and claiming Gypsy culture and traditions.
A date in which the flag and the hymn Gelem Gelem is also born.
Next Monday, April 8, the esplanade of Lo Pagán, will host the celebration of the International Day of the Gypsy People, with the raising of the flag, singing of the Gelem Gelem hymn, the exhibition of murals that reflect the historical evolution of this town, the reading of a manifesto and a floral offering that will give way to an afternoon of coexistence with activities for the little ones.
This day, which is celebrated on April 8 at the Lo Pagán esplanade, starting at 4:00 p.m., is organized by the local Gypsy Development Program, the Kalochí Kaló Association and the Secretariado Gitano Foundation.
