This pilot project of community composting and domestic bio-waste is funded by the Plan to Promote Environment in the waste sector of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and in a second phase will involve the distribution of more than a score of composters in gardens and private gardens .
The councilman of Environment of San Pedro del Pinatar, Pedro Javier Sanchez, has informed today in the school Villa Alegría of the start-up of the pilot project of composting domestic and community of biorresiduos, financed with an amount of 10.232 euros by the Plan of Boosting the Environment
The mayor explained that this initiative will be developed in two phases, a first, already underway, consisting of the installation of composters in municipal urban gardens, schoolchildren Villa Alegria, Los Antolinos, Las Esperanzas and Los Pinos schools ;
and the municipal eco-park.
In a second phase the bases for the distribution of 23 domestic composters will be published among interested citizens with habitual residence in the municipality and who own a plot of garden or garden.
The objective of this project is to promote the experience of composting as a model to encourage the reuse of domestic organic waste and to value the suitability of this compost as an organic fertilizer in gardens and orchards.
Thus, the councilor stressed that this project also deepens awareness and environmental awareness, both in school and in the rest of the pinatarenses.
The participants in the project will also have a composting guide and a field notebook, as well as training and technical advice throughout the process to get a proper compost and its application as organic fertilizer.
In addition, the City Council has also purchased three wood chippers for pruning waste, which can be provided as a dry fraction to the composted material and which can be used by the participants in the project.
