La Mota Beach has hosted the presentation of the Copla Regional Plan that mobilizes more than 250 people and numerous material means to ensure safe bathing in the coast of the entire Region.
The Autonomous Community, in coordination with the coastal municipalities and the Red Cross, deploys one more year, with the arrival of summer and the massive influx of visitors to the coast of the Region, to the members of the Beaches Surveillance and Rescue Plan and Rescue in La Mar (Copla), in order to effectively address any type of incident that may occur and ensure the safe enjoyment of the bathing season.
The surveillance and rescue device, presented today on the beach of La Mota (San Pedro del Pinatar) by the advisor of the acting Presidency, Pedro Rivera, has 252 people, of which 231 are lifeguards, 127 posts, spread over 767 beaches, and numerous material means, among which there are 11 boats, 12 jet skis and 23 rescue pirogues, 6 quads and 8 all-terrain vehicles, 2 ambulances, 26 disabled chairs and 7 maritime rescue boats.
Rivera, who was accompanied by the acting mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the regional president of the Red Cross, Faustino Herrero, recalled that "although the Copla Plan remains active throughout the year, it is during the high danger, which goes from July 1 to August 31, when the available means are fully activated, notwithstanding the fact that in both June and September a good number of the surveillance posts are kept open. In fact, 41 positions are already active in the month of June. "
Likewise, he underlined that in 2018 there were more than 70,000 actions by the members of the Copla Plan, of which just over 40,000 were confined to providing information or providing assistance in the area of ​​social services.
In fact, the past exercise increased by 30 percent assisted bathroom assistance for people with disabilities.
For its part, the actions consisting of cures and first aid were just over 28,600 and rescue and salvage about 700, 5.6 percent less than the previous year.
Guarded beaches in San Pedro del Pinatar
For its part, Visitación Martínez said that all the beaches of San Pedro del Pinatar will be monitored this summer by 42 lifeguards.
Thus, on the beaches of the Mar Menor, surveillance will begin this weekend until September 30, while in the Mediterranean it will be from July 1 to September 15.
To develop their work, the lifeguards and civil protection personnel will have twelve Watchtowers for surveillance and rescue on the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, three surveillance, rescue and first aid posts and five proximity chairs in the Mar Menor.
These stalls will be equipped with four lifesaving pirogues, two water rescue bikes, two rescue boats, a quad and off-road motorcycle, an all-terrain vehicle, 27 bicycles, five amphibious chairs, 3 amphibian crutches, three sets of amphibian crutches and two cranes for people with reduced mobility.
