The sixth edition of Classic Sailing of the Mar Menor will be held from September 6 to 8 and will once again house historic boats in the water clubs of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The Lo Pagán yacht club today hosted the presentation of the VI Mar Menor Classic, a nautical, cultural and touristic event that combines the regattas of traditional sailing boats with the exhibition, during those days, of historic boats on the docks themselves, thus creating a floating museum.
The president of the Organizing Committee, Andrés Sánchez, pointed out that this year you will be able to enjoy these historic boats both in the Lo Pagán yacht club and in the Villa de San Pedro and that various regattas will be organized in the Mar Menor, so He thanked the involvement of all the river towns, as well as the nautical clubs, the Sailing Federation of the Region and the Autonomous Community.
Sanchez also expressed his gratitude for the collaboration of the Navy, which has favored that this event be included for three consecutive years in the calendar of events of the V Centennial of the return to the world of Magallanes and Cano, declared of special public interest and coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Visitación Martínez has also highlighted the importance of the VI Clásica del Mar Menor being included in the V Centennial of the Around the World, consolidating its position as one of the most important concentrations of classic and vintage boats in the Mediterranean.
The mayor of the town has praised this type of events that go beyond sports, combining sailing with culture and tourism, around traditional sailing and the marine arts.
During the presentation the trophy of the VI Edition was also shown, a bust of Juan Sebastián Elcano in bronze, given by the Navy on the occasion of the inclusion of this event in the V Centenario of the return to the World.
The general director of Sports of the Community, Alonso Gómez, attended the presentation ceremony of the VI Clásica del Mar Menor;
Colonel President of the Naval Commission of Regatas de Cartagena, Fulgencio Jumilla;
the president of the Sailing Federation of the Region, Arturo García, the councilors of Tourism of the City Councils of Cartagena, Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar, and presidents and directors of nautical clubs and marinas.
