The municipal group of Citizens has agreed with the battery of measures demanded by the municipal government
The spokesman of the municipal group of Citizens, José Luis Ros, has described the events that happened last weekend in the Mar Menor as “the largest marine disaster in Spain since the Prestige, we can say that this is the Murcian Prestige,†he said Ros.
Citizens have demanded before the extraordinary plenary held to analyze the situation of the lagoon that "political responsibilities are assumed" by the state of pollution in which the salt lagoon is located.
"The degradation of the Mar Menor has policy makers in the council, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Hydrographic Confederation of l Segura," said the spokesman for the orange formation, who has justified so that Citizens decided not to join the institutional statement proposed by The local government team.
However, the orange formation has been in agreement with the battery of measures included in the declaration, which includes among other issues the adoption of urgent measures for the fishing sector both locally and regionally, in addition to urging the regional government to apply the Urgent Measures Law and write the Integral Law of the Mar Menor, as well as apply the Zero Discharge Plan, lower the water table and clean the seabed.
Citizens have also demanded an audit of the operation of storm tanks throughout the Mar Menor, especially those of San Pedro, as well as its sanitation network.
"Storm tanks are infrastructures that have not proven useful, and that being connected to degraded sewer networks may be pouring into the Mar Menor, with the addition that they store and degrade the water collected by stalling it occasionally for weeks" , added the orange spokesperson.
