Citizens call for the eradication of illegal crops and sustainable agriculture to save the Mar Menor (28/10/2019)

José Luis Martínez and the candidates from the area have a meeting with the businessmen, the Fishermen's Association, Ecologists in Action and the Pact for the Mar Menor

Pursuing illegal crops and allowing only sustainable agriculture in their environment is the initial proposal that Citizens has put on the table to begin “once and for all the recovery of our Mar Menorâ€.

This was explained by the orange candidate José Luis Martínez to the Pact for the Mar Menor and Ecologists in Action at a meeting held this afternoon at the Hotel Bahía de San Pedro del Pinatar.

The meeting was also joined by the candidates Eleuterio Ramón (Los Alcázares) and José Luis Ros (San Pedro del Pinatar), as well as the Association of Entrepreneurs and the Fishermen's Association of the town.

"Either we are blunt in the defense of the Mar Menor or there will be nothing to defend," Ros said.

"We think that we are still on time, but we must be expeditious, and for this we need the involvement of all administrations," said the candidate from Alcazar.

Orange candidates have pledged to demand that aid to the fisheries sector be made effective immediately.

“We are not worth only a promise or a press release.

Today, more than 150 families do not have their livelihoods insured during this crisis, â€said Ros, who confirmed that“ Citizens will require both the Directorate General of Fisheries and the ministry to detail the amount and timeframe for the granting of these grants â€.

“We agree on the objective, which is to reverse the situation suffered by the Mar Menor, and it is clear that criminal and political responsibilities will also have to be sought.

But the main cause, not the only one, of this crisis is intensive agriculture, so we believe that the first thing is to end illegal crops and then allow only those that are sustainable in relation to the Mar Menor, â€he explained by his part José Luis Martínez.

For the orange candidate, “we are not only guilty of blaming the Regional Administration, because the Government of Spain is also responsible through the Segura Hydrographic Confederation and the Ministry of Ecological Transition ca.

And the municipalities, governed by PSOE or PP, have also contributed to a greater or lesser extent to this degradation. â€

“The Decree on Urgent Measures or the urban moratorium approved in the Regional Assembly have been insufficient.

We agree to elaborate the Law of Integral Protection of the Mar Menor immediately and to implement the Zero Discharge Plan.

But, above all, we need to follow the instructions set by experts in the field, those emanating from the Scientific Committee, â€Martínez said.
