The Governing Council has given the green light to the direct grant grant decree, for a total amount of 400,000 euros, to the fishing vessel operators of the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The objective is to help alleviate the losses caused by the temporary stoppage of its activity as a result of the damage last September.
In total, there is a 400,000 euros item that covers the period from October 12 to November 30 and from which 40 shipowners or owners of fishing boats will benefit from the Brotherhood of San Pedro del Pinatar.
"From the first moment, the regional government was next to the fishermen, committed to the sector and assuring them a decree of aid like the one we approve today. On October 13, just a few hours after the fish mortality episode, we promised this solution and, after complying with the relevant legal requirements, we put 400,000 euros at your disposal, "explained the Regional Executive spokeswoman, Ana Martínez Vidal, in a press conference following the Governing Council.
The beneficiaries of this subsidy will be, according to the terms established in this decree, the fishing vessel operators of the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar who have exercised fishing in the coastal lagoon in the 2014-2018 period and have fishing activity between on January 1 and October 12, 2019 and which, therefore, are included in Annex I of the decree.
In addition, they must not have exercised the fishing activity between October 14 and November 30.
For the calculation of the aid intended to repair the damages caused by the damage, the provisions of article 44.7 of Commission Regulation (EU) No 388/2014, of December 16, 2014, which declare certain categories of aid to companies engaged in the production, processing and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
It should also be noted that the justification for the direct granting of the subsidy is that the losses caused by the temporary cessation of fishing activity affect all shipowners or owners of fishing vessels of the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar, therefore, it is impossible to promote public concurrence, since the situation only occurs in said shipowners or owners of fishing vessels.
