The general director of the Natural Environment, Fulgencio Perona, visited the Salinas y Arenales regional park in San Pedro del Pinatar today and supervised the exceptional maintenance work carried out on the beaches to mitigate the consequences of the strong storms that occurred in September and December of last year .
These phenomena caused significant damage due to flooding, dragging a large amount of unnatural materials that accumulated on these beaches.
In addition, six specimens of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) were affected, barefoot at their base or falling in some cases, which caused a significant risk for pedestrians in the area.
For this reason, in an exceptional way, the removal of these entrained materials was authorized, among which were remains of reeds and organic waste mixed with Oceanic Posidonia, both at La Llana beach and at Torre Derribada.
The palm trees that were lying were lifted, propped up and pruned to perform their stability and conservation.
