The Department of Social Welfare, through home help workers, provides assistance to dependents and older people who are not regular users of this service, and monitoring of groups at risk of exclusion by professionals in this area (social workers, psychologists and educator), with the support of the other professionals (mediator-translator and administrative assistants).
The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Fuensanta García, held a meeting today with the workers of the Home Help Service who, during the State of Alarm decreed by the COVID health crisis- 19, they are attending to the regular users of the service and to those elderly or dependent who need help to buy food, pharmaceuticals or any other need that may arise.
Visitación Martínez has highlighted the work of the 6 workers who currently provide this service to more than twenty seniors and dependents, users of the home care service, both in domestic tasks and in personal hygiene, etc.
In addition, to promptly attend to dozens of people who, during this crisis, have requested help to acquire basic necessities.
These actions are coordinated through the Social Workers of the Department and the cases derived by the municipal Civil Protection Service.
On the other hand, the municipal Technicians of the Department of Social Welfare, attend to the demands of those people or families without economic resources, mainly of basic necessity products, coordinating this action with the suppliers of these products in the locality, to facilitate the maximum access to them and minimize displacement and possible risk.
Social Services professionals are also intensifying telephone assistance, with support and follow-up, to all people in situations of special vulnerability, such as the elderly or dependents without family support, victims of violence, families with minors at risk, etc.
In addition, before the closing of the schools with a school canteen service, the Department has processed for the families of the students who receive a school canteen scholarship, to grant the amount of these scholarships through vouchers redeemable in food products.
