Civil Protection and the local group of volunteers coordinate different solidarity actions, among which the production and distribution of masks and other protection elements such as screens, hats, etc stand out;
with the aim of preventing the spread of COVID-19 among the population.
The Department of Emergencies of San Pedro del Pinatar coordinates, through the group of Civil Protection volunteers, various solidarity actions at the local level, within the framework of the health crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Thus, since last March 21, and in collaboration with 219 volunteers, a total of 23,200 masks have been sewn, of which 16,500 have already been distributed to the population of San Pedro del Pinatar.
In this regard, the councilor for the area, Angela Gaona explained that in a first phase these were distributed in nursing homes, a health center, the municipal services of the Local Police, Civil Protection and Municipal Warehouse, as well as cleaning operators , garbage collection, etc.
Subsequently, these masks were distributed in local pharmacies and are currently being distributed among companies and shops for distribution to the entire population.
In addition, in collaboration with the Claudio Galeno Institute, 3,293 masks have been made directly for the Murcian Health Institute for health professionals.
Through this voluntary action, 500 caps have also been produced and, with the collaboration of entities such as the Manuel Tárraga Escribano Institute and other individuals, 230 protection screens have also been made for the Los Arcos Hospital and other health and commercial centers that have required this type of material.
In addition, 81 diving masks have been collected for a research project of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena that studies its adaptation for hospital patients of COVID-19.
Among other actions carried out by the group of volunteers is free psychological care, a service that has provided support to 39 people since it was launched.
The councilor thanked the work and effort of the group of Civil Protection volunteers, as well as the seamstresses who make the masks from their home and the companies and individuals who have donated material, such as Zambú Hygiene, Nautical Upholstery, PC Components, David Moreno Cortés, Haberdashery 95, Haberdashery Paqui and La Merceria.
