This subsidy is part of the Extraordinary Aid Plan for the sectors affected by the situation of the Mar Menor, which includes actions in the tourist, commercial and fishing sectors.
The City of San Pedro del Pinatar has recently paid the grant of 21,000 euros awarded to the Fishermen's Association for the protection and development of the municipality's fishing resources.
The Councilor for Fisheries, Silvia Egea, recalled that this subsidy is part of the plan for 30 measures to help tourism, fishing and trade, which was announced last January, endowed with more than 170,000 euros, to support to the sectors most affected by the Mar Menor situation.
Thus, this direct subsidy to the Fishermen's Association, a key sector in the local economy, is included in the fisheries sector and, after the episode of anoxia in October 2019 and the current environmental imbalance in the Mar Menor, its income has been considerably reduced.
In addition to this subsidy, aimed at the maintenance and maintenance expenses of the fishermen's guild, the local government team also approved a € 40,000 item intended for direct aid to fishermen who have not received aid from other administrations and € 10,000 for promoting artisanal fishing.
"We are aware of the difficult situation our fishermen are going through, a crisis that we will only overcome if all the administrations, jointly and as quickly as possible, adopt the necessary measures for the protection of the Mar Menor, because only its improvement guarantees continuity from sectors as important as fishing or tourism in our region, "concluded the councilor.
