The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the councilors for Celebrations, Javier Castejón, and Tourism, Silvia Egea, met today with the representatives of the groups involved in celebrating the festivities in honor of San Pedro and La Virgen del Carmen, determining the total suspension of the same in 2020, thus extending the cancellation of large-scale events, announced already in April to all events, due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus. After announcing last April the suspension of events with a large influx of public for the 2020 festivities and, after analyzing the current scenario with the Brotherhood of San Pedro Apóstol, the Association of the Virgen del Carmen and the Cabildo de la Cofradía de Pescadores, It has been decided to annul all the events that are traditionally held on these dates, in order to guarantee the safety of all. The City Council and the different groups involved will carry out a campaign to promote both festivities on social networks, to highlight these celebrations of great tradition in the municipality.
Some liturgical acts will also be held, which will be announced by the Parish in dates close to the name day of San Pedro and La Virgen del Carmen, respectively, and whose capacity is regulated as provided in the Official State Gazette.
