The San Pedro del Pinatar City Council allocates a total of € 48,230 to the solidarity basket project, a project that as a result of the covid-19 crisis has turned out to be essential to support the most basic needs of many residents of the municipalityThe mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Zoilo Ballester, have delivered today the endowment of the "Solidarity shopping basket" program to the Cáritas Parroquial and Red Cross Mar Menor Norte associations, whose projects have opted for these grants.Through this program, the City Council has allocated a total of 48,230 euros, with a donation of € 3,000 granted by Obra Social la Caixa, to associations that help the most needy, with the aim of complementing the products they receive from banks of food from Cartagena and Murcia.Visitación Martínez has indicated that the objective of this 7-year-old project is to support and complement the work carried out by local associations that work as distributors of the region's food bank, through coordination and cooperation between administration and social agents , thus improving comprehensive care for the neediest people in the municipality.The mayor has highlighted that this year the City Council has increased the amount of the Solidarity Basket by € 15,230 more, which comes from activities that have not been carried out due to COVID-19.Thus, € 24,115 goes to Cáritas Parroquial, which serves 265 users.
Antonio Tárraga, president of Cáritas has indicated that in the period that the state of alarm of the COVID-19 crisis lasted, the increase in aid led to more than 70 families being cared for by the social emergency derived from this health crisis.
Thanks to this grant, it was possible to meet and help the needs of the neighbors by providing basic food to so many families who were left in a precarious situation.Finally, the president of the Mar Menor Norte Red Cross, Antonio Martínez, has indicated that the Red Cross allocates the € 24,115 to attend to 29 children in solidarity breakfasts, along with more than 70 families who, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, have also needed the help of this service.
