| The Rotary Clubs of the Region of Murcia and the company Taruga Creaciones resort this year to urban art to make the fight against the disease visible | The eight Rotary clubs of Murcia, Mar Menor, Cartagena, Torre Pacheco and Molina de Segura inaugurate this Saturday, the 24th, a mural of urban art to raise awareness among the population about the need to fight against the eradication of polio in the world.
The event coincides with World Polio Day and aims to invite citizens to join the campaign to vaccinate children and put an end to this disease.The solidarity mural, painted on the wall of the Chocolate Factory building, is sponsored by the Taruga Creaciones company, which specializes in the design and painting of murals.
The company has donated € 2,000 to the Rotary Foundation that will be used for projects related to the Region of Murcia.The opening ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 p.m., in the dividing wall of the Chocolate Factory building, located at the confluence of Avenida Romería de la Virgen del Carmen and Calle Formentera, in San Pedro del Pinatar. This action in San Pedro del Pinatar joins those organized around the world by Rotary International, founding entity of the global initiative for the eradication of polio, and which has reduced the number of cases by more than 99.9% . Although the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Africa free of this disease last August, after four years without any cases, the fight must continue because there are still sick children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In 2019, 176 cases were registered. For more than 30 years, volunteer Rotarians have traveled to various countries to vaccinate the population against this disease and carry out epidemiological surveillance thanks to solidarity contributions.
With every 0.50 euros raised in these campaigns, Rotary vaccinates a child who may be free of this disease.Rotary International is a humanitarian organization made up of professionals and entrepreneurs present in more than 200 countries.
This network of volunteers aims to promote peace and addresses the most pressing humanitarian problems fundamentally linked to the eradication of poverty, the promotion of clean water, the protection of the environment and the fight against illiteracy or disease.
One of the best known actions is his campaign to eradicate polio in the world.
