The Director General of Transport, coasts and ports, Salvador Garcia-Ayllon, along with the mayor of San Pedro de Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, participated today in the maritime procession held in honor of the Virgen del Carmen and organized the Brotherhood of local fishermen.
This celebration, declared of Regional Tourist Interest since 1965, started with a target that gave way to the Mass in honor of the Virgin and terrestrial pilgrimage of the cover image on the shoulders toward the waters of the Mar Menor, where decorated boats conducted a maritime procession , which threw red carnations into the water in memory of the deceased men sea.
Then a mass was celebrated and the image moved in procession to the church of Our Lady of Carmen in Lo Pagan, where it remains today and at night, after the traditional fireworks display will return to San Pedro del Pinatar.
This town makes this maritime procession since 1892 and has since been held every July 16 this feast as a sign of his devotion to the Virgen del Carmen, with a land and sea procession.
