The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, along with the Director General of Sports, Alonso Gómez, and the president of the Murcia Boxing Federation, Felipe Martinez, today presented the junior international tournament Pinatar Boxing, to be held from 5 to 8 October in the locality.
This international tournament will be the prelude Young World Championship Boxing held in November in St. Petersburg and meet in San Pedro del Pinatar more than 120 people, including boxers, coaches, referees and persnal of the club and federations.
The mayor has indicated that participate in the championship clubs and national teams of Spain, Germany, Sweden, Wales, France, Monaco, the Netherlands, Italy and Morocco.
Visitation Martinez stressed the impact on the tourism and commercial sectors involving events of this level, as already confirmed 600 overnight stays in the village during the championship, only participants and technical equipment, which must be added those of family and fans who will also spend these days in San Pedro del Pinatar.
The objective of the City is betting on this type of high-level sports tournaments, further diversify the sporting activities of the town, are a tourist attraction internationally, he has stressed the mayor.
In this regard, the Director General of Sports, Alonso Gómez, has indicated that this championship is part of the program "Tourism + Sports = Success" of the Autonomous Community aimed at promoting sports tourism and seasonal adjustment and until the month of September has of course more than 16,000 overnight stays in the region in 2016.
For his part, the president of the Boxing Federation of the Region, Felipe Martinez, thanked the support of local and regional administration and has invited sports fans to attend the tournament, with free admission, to meet the new talents of the sport and support the members of the junior and young Spanish team participating in the championship.
The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Sports, Daniel Perez, the national coach of the Spanish Olympic Team and double Olympic medalist, Rafael Lozano, and Viorel Sima, supervisor of International Boxing Association (AIBA) and members of the Spanish Federation Boxing.
The competition will begin tomorrow, Wednesday October 5 and end on Saturday, October 8, at the Prince of Asturias municipal hall, from 17:00 hours.
