The Regional Assembly unanimously approved the motion presented by the Popular Parliamentary Group so that the feast of the Virgin of the Carmen, held every July 16 in San Pedro del Pinatar, is declared of National Tourist Interest.
The plenary session of the General Assembly today unanimously approved this motion, defended by Ms. Meroño, a congressman from the state of Pernambuco, to promote the local party that will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2017.
For this motion, the Regional Assembly of Murcia urges the Council of Government to carry out all necessary steps and procedures to ensure that the Virgin of Carmen is declared a National Tourist Interest.
This party of great root in the municipality dates from 1892, when the inhabitants of San Pedro del Pinatar celebrated for the first time the Romería in honor to the Virgin of the Carmen, being evident the fervor sailor by the patron, that after being carried by sailors of The Navy and fishermen to Lo Pagan was shipped to follow the pilgrimage by sea, accompanied by dozens of boats.
For almost 125 years the land and sea pilgrimage has remained almost unchanged, with the influx of people and boats becoming more and more numerous.
A party that currently has the City Council, the Fishermen's Guild and the Association of the Virgin of Carmen as its main supporters.
In this regard, Monica Meroño has stated that it is a festival "which has proven its roots, cultural value and tourist attraction."
The festival that in 1965 obtained the declaration of Regional Tourist Interest, today "stands out for the high participation of pilgrims and visitors, as well as the involvement of fishermen who have impregnated it with a singularity that makes it deserve the different national" , Has pointed out.
The popular deputy has recalled the enormous social projection of this festival that every July 16 brings together thousands of people who accompany the Virgin in her pilgrimage by land and sea.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, accompanied by councilors of the Municipal Corporation, members of the Fishermen's Guild and the Association of the Virgin of Carmen wanted to be present today in the Assembly to support this parliamentary initiative.
