San Pedro del Pinatar today celebrated International Volunteer Day in an event that has recognized the altruistic work that has been carried out for over five years by more than 250 municipal volunteers in social, educational, sporting or cultural projects, among others.
The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Volunteering, Fuensanta García, today praised the dedication and will of the more than 250 people who since 2012 have participated in the Volunteer Municipal Plan, under the motto "Discover The best of you, become a volunteer. "
The first mayor stressed the increasing importance of volunteering, as demonstrated by the new Law on Volunteering, approved in 2015 and adapted to social changes, giving greater space to citizen participation and offering greater guarantees to those who perform this work.
Visitación Martínez also thanked the help provided by the volunteers as part of the participatory workshops promoted by the City during the year for the purpose of the Urban and Sustainable Development strategy.
For his part, Fuensanta García has highlighted the work done by these municipal volunteers in different areas, such as educational auxiliaries, school monitors in English, volunteers in nursing homes and those who collaborate with the AMMA Alzheimer Association in Cognitive stimulation program.
He also praised the dedication of volunteers who collaborate with the archaeological museum, the municipal library, art exhibitions, volunteers who join sports activities, those involved in reinforcement programs to prevent school failure and absenteeism, Those who collaborate with the house cradle in summer and university volunteers.
The event ended with the delivery of a small gift to each of the volunteers present as appreciation for the important role they play in the municipality.
