More than 200 volunteers have gone through the local volunteer scheme since 2011, through programs such as social volunteering, or civic programs in areas such as education, culture, languages, sport, children or associations.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Fuensanta García, welcomed a new British volunteer, Karen Janis Malcolm, who will join the civic volunteer program for education, which has an initiative to reinforce English by natives, members of The Association of English-speaking ADAPT.
The municipal volunteer program, which was born in 2011, has been growing and adapting over the years, through technical conferences, agreements with different entities such as the University of Murcia, training courses, workshops, etc.
Thus, there are currently several lines of volunteer work, such as social work, which fosters solidarity and intergenerational relationships by collaborating with older people in the nursing homes and the municipal day center.
In the civic area there are several active programs, in addition to volunteering for education, there are people who collaborate in the cultural area with support activities in exhibition halls and the archaeological and ethnographic museum, in fact, one of the volunteers, In this space he has recently obtained a work as archaeologist in Ireland in which his voluntary experience has been valued.
There are also volunteers for sport, volunteering for children in the nursery in the summer, the youth volunteer program, with minors from 14 years, as well as volunteering with associations, one of the ones that has grown the most in these years with Joint projects with associations such as AIDEMAR, AFEMAR, FAGA, AMMA or Mikaseda among others.
All those who wish to join these programs can be informed through the council of volunteers, in the case of social volunteering located in the Social Services center, and civic programs on the first floor of the City.
