Earth Hour is a campaign launched by the conservation organization WWF to combat climate change, which every year cities around the world show their support for the campaign by turning off the lights of its main monuments and buildings to demonstrate support To action against climate change.
This year, San Pedro del Pinatar adds to Earth Hour, as a gesture more of the involvement of the municipality in the adoption of measures of energy efficiency and reduction of emissions to the atmosphere.
This commitment began with the accession of San Pedro del Pinatar to the Covenant of Mayors, which brings together thousands of local and regional authorities with a voluntary commitment to implement the EU climate and energy objectives in their territories, resulting in the adoption of a Municipal Sustainable Energy Action Plan with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and implementing concrete measures to replace public luminaires with more efficient ones.
This municipal action continues with the approval of an Integrated Urban Sustainable Development Strategy of the municipality that establishes a protocol of action to fulfill, among others, environmental and climatic aspects to build a sustainable future.
Therefore, on March 25, from 20:30 to 21:30 hours, the lights of Plaza Luis Molina and the section of Victor Pradera Street will be extinguished adjacent to the City Hall building and invites all citizens to join To the celebration of Earth Hour.
