The councils of Health and Environment, in collaboration with the company in charge of pest control, carry out this campaign which is completed with treatments and studies for the control of this species in the municipality.
The Councilor for the Environment and Sanitation of San Pedro del Pinatar, Pedro Javier Sánchez, accompanied by the biologist Belmonte Higiene Ambiental, concessionaire of the Pest Control Service in the municipality, Isabel Carrión, have presented the information campaign against the mosquito Tiger.
The councilman pointed out that the tiger mosquito, coming from Southeast Asia appeared for the first time in Region 2012 and that this species reproduces in small amounts of fresh water that have been stagnant for more than a week, especially in urban and periurban areas.
Sánchez has indicated that the City and the company responsible for pest control carry out a preventive work throughout the year with biweekly treatments with biological larvicides in the flooded areas of the municipality as the perimeter channel of the Natural Park of Salinas and Arenales, parks and public gardens .
A work that intensifies in the months of April to October, when mosquitoes hatch, with adulticidal treatments, that is to say fumigations in parks and public spaces.
In addition, the service acts in case of citizen notices of outbreaks in neighborhoods, where there will also be a task of inspection and dissemination of information among neighbors.
These measures also require citizen collaboration, as most larval hatcheries occur in private areas where only owners can take action against the tiger mosquito.
For this reason informative triptychs will be distributed with measures to prevent them from reproducing, such as eliminating containers with standing water, renewing the water of the pets or performing an adequate maintenance of the swimming pools.
For her part, Isabel Carrión explained that from June to October six specific traps are placed for the tiger mosquito, three in San Pedro and three in Lo Pagán, to have an entomological surveillance network that covers the entire urban center .
In addition, the samples are collected biweekly and the data are studied in collaboration with the University of Murcia.
In addition, it has indicated that in the treatment that is performed with biological larvicides in the scuppers of the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro, will be used a new product more effective and with greater durability, to get control of mosquitoes in the municipality of June to October.
