The Beach Police Unit will be responsible, from June 24 to September 10, for the surveillance of the sand area and promenades of the town, reinforcing the vigilance in matters of citizen security.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, the general director of Community Emergency and Public Safety, José Ramón Carrasco, and the police councilor, Angela Gaona, have presented the Local Police Unit of Beaches, which For the second consecutive year, will monitor the coastline.
Visitación Martínez explained that this police unit "is a pioneer and unique in the Region of Murcia" and is part of the actions aimed at bringing the Local Police to the citizen, offering a more effective, direct and accessible service, under the motto "Near you".
This operation will start on Saturday June 24 until September 10 and is composed of one corporal and seven local police officers, who will monitor the 12 kilometers of beaches of San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as the different sea walks of the location.
The agents of this unit use bicycles as means of transport and are responsible for 10 hours a day, seven days a week, of the surveillance of both the sand area and the seafront.
Among the most important functions carried out by this unit is the control and repression of illegal street vending, controlling the presence of dogs on the beaches, illegal camping, prevention of thefts and other criminal activities, as well as providing information and coexistence rules.
During the summer of 2016 the Beach Unit attended a total of 2941 people, informing them about the municipal regulations in areas such as traffic, animals, fishing, etc.
In addition he managed to eradicate street vending during this period in the Paseo de la Mota and Villananitos and participated, among other tasks, in the search for lost persons in the beach area.
