The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched this summer language immersion camps for a total of 575 students in sixth elementary education and third compulsory secondary education (ESO).
Councilor Adela Martínez-Cachá visited the San Pedro Apóstol Education Center today, accompanied by the Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and explained that "this is an initiative that we reinforce year after year. Increase the number of participants in these programs that enhance language learning. "
330 students from the sixth grade of Primary Education and 245 students from the third level of Compulsory Secondary Education participate.
This year, the number of seats increased by 45 compared to the previous year.
The counselor participated in the language immersion camp of 3rd grade students in Mandatory Secondary Education to develop their oral skills in English, primarily production and interaction.
These camps are part of the '+ Idiomas' initiative that the Ministry develops to encourage students to learn foreign languages.
This year, it invests 10 percent more than the previous one, with an endowment of 188,000 euros co-financed by the European Social Fund.
Martínez-Cachá explained that this type of initiatives "serve to perfect the language and communicative development, and at the same time enhances the coexistence of students coinciding with the summer period."
In this way, the camp takes place in three shifts of 82 students, the first of them from July 1 to July 10, the second from July 11 to July 20 and the third from July 21 to 30.
The language stays will be directed by qualified professionals with experience in teaching English, which accredit a minimum level of B2 of the Common Framework of Reference for Languages.
Students take 40 hours of English language training and every 10 children have a B2 English language monitor and for every 15 children there is an English native.
Throughout these 10 days, the students take two trips to visit the Las Salinas Visitor Center, San Pedro del Pinatar, the Union mines and the Cabo de Palos beach.
The selection criteria of the students were the sum of the average grade of the grades obtained and the grade of the English course in the course prior to their participation in the activity.
Some of the activities they carry out are project works, oral presentations and debates, role plays, one to one, simulations of dialogues and situations based on real-life linguistic needs, as well as games and other nautical activities, Held in the 'Club Aloha' of the Alcázares, which involve interaction and improve the relationship between teachers and the program's native monitors.
All the works will be collected in a portfolio by each student.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports subsidizes all the costs of accommodation, support and didactic material of the course of the participants.
