Medio Natural organizes a free guided tour to the Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro (15/08/2017)

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment develops this Thursday, August 17, a guided tour of the regional park Salinas and Arenales San Pedro del Pinatar.

The route is part of the program 'Backpack activities' organized by the Directorate General of Natural Environment to spread the wealth of protected areas of the Region of Murcia.

The director general, Consuelo Rosauro, explained that 'Between two waters' is the name of this visit in which "participants will walk between the waters of the Mar Menor and the salt flats discovering the traditional activities that are carried out in this protected area, Making it known and also making visitors aware of the need for us all to become involved in the care of our natural heritage. "

The visit will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

In total, round trip, will be traveled three kilometers and the route is classified as 'low difficulty', so it is an activity especially recommended for families and is also accessible for people with reduced mobility.

Until September, visits, workshops and volunteer activities in the Sierra Espuña, El Valle and Carrascoy, Salinas and Arenales parks of San Pedro del Pinatar are being organized by the council, as well as in Cablanque, Mount of the Ashes and Peña del Águila, and in the Natural Reserve of Cañaverosa.

Rosauro declared that "these places of great natural, ecological and cultural value are still unknown for part of Murcia itself and, above all, for those who visit our region during the summer months."

Precisely to contribute to its value, he added that the activities "will last until the end of September, to show different ways of knowing and enjoying in family these spaces, respecting their resources their fauna and flora."

The Salinas of San Pedro

The Regional Park Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar is a coastal-coastal space with vegetation formations of dunes, sand and salt marshes.

It has a wide representation of habitats such as coastal lagoons, saline grasslands, halophilous scrubs, salt flats, fixed dunes of crucianellion maritimae and juniper scrub.

As for the fauna, it is a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) because it is a breeding area for the common avoceta species (Recurvirostra avosetta), common tuna (Sterna albifrons), stilt (Himantopus himantopus) and pagona piconegra Gelochelidon nilotica).

Upcoming Activities

The activities planned for the month of August will end on Sunday 27 (12:00 hours) with a children's workshop in Alhama de Murcia (in front of the camping 'Sierra Espuña' of El Berro).

'Meet the Flying Mammals of Sierra Espuña' is the name of this workshop, in which children will discover curiosities, false beliefs and will know how beneficial bats are for nature and for people.

'The activities pack' will continue in September with a mobile information point that will coincide with the Romería de la Fuensanta (September 12) and which will allow the pilgrims to take a break, carry out activities and obtain information about the El Valle Park and Carrascoy.

On Saturday 16, the 'Day of the beaches' will be celebrated in Calblanque, and the next day the bats will again be protagonists with the children's workshop that will take place in La Sierra, Totana.

That same day (17), there will also be another workshop on salt in San Pedro del Pinatar.

To dismiss the summer, in the surroundings of the Visitor Center 'El Valle' will take place a family gymkana entitled 'The Garden of wonders' (day 24) and a guided tour of the Cañaverosa Reserve (day 30) Traditional uses of plants.

The visitor centers and information points of the different regional parks remain open during the summer and visits are also made to the 'El Valle' Wildlife Recovery Center.
