The Plenum unanimously approved this morning the Citizens' motion to register the municipality within the Eurovelo 8 route of the European Union.
The route, which links Athens and Cadiz across almost 6,000 kilometers, forms part of Eurovelo, the official bicycle tourism network that travels throughout the European Union, promoting a tourism with high purchasing power, sustainable and healthy.
Ciudadanos has managed to get San Pedro del Pinatar to be the gateway to this route as it passes through the region, and to travel all over the regional coast to Aguilas.
At the same time, Citizens have included in their proposal that the route became compatible with the cycle route between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz.
"The European network foresaw a Murcia branch, but the regional government never bothered to adapt the coastal route, so it was only possible to add the section to the City of the Cross.
Now, thanks to Cs, it will be possible to adapt the stretch that will travel our coastline completely and add it to this important route, "says Cs spokesman, José Luis Ros.
The Citizens' motion, which was joined by the rest of the municipal groups at the last minute, involves a series of investments to ensure a network of cycle lanes adapted to the characteristics of Eurovelo, together with the requirement to the regional government to carry out investments in all coastal municipalities to be able to develop the initiative, starting with San Pedro del Pinatar: "This motion will be a clear benefit for the Pinatarenses as it ensures the development of cycle lanes by the municipality with autonomous investment and, at the same time , will increase the number of tourists - especially Europeans - who would pass through the town and carry out economic expenses there, "says the Orange spokesman.
Citizens said that the motion is the first step to get out of the unfortunate tourist situation in which has been San Pedro del Pinatar this summer: "The Government team the PP has placed the town this summer in jokes throughout Spain by ordinance of beaches, "explains Ros.
"Now, however and thank you from Citizens, it is time to launch serious proposals with investments to diversify our offer and increase visitors attracted by our strengths, such as gastronomy, the Regional Park of the Salinas and water sports," the orange spokesman points out.
The motion will also be presented by Cs in all coastal municipalities and in the Regional Assembly itself, within an ambitious commitment to the initiative, which Ros describes as "very positive".
