This exhibition, organized by the Cervantes Commission400 Region of Murcia, includes the works of thirty renowned plastic and visual artists inspired by the protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes' novel "La gitanilla".
The Barón de Benifayó museum hosted last night the inauguration of the exhibition "Preciosa de Murcia", a collective exhibition in which, through painting, sculpture, or photography, different views and readings of the character of Constanza, the young Murcia protagonist of "The Gitanilla", work of Miguel de Cervantes.
The Councilor for Culture, Silvia Egea, and the curator of the exhibition, Javier Lorente, were in charge of inaugurating "Preciosa de Murcia", an itinerant collection that will cover various artistic spaces in the Region.
Javier Lorente explained that this sample comes within the framework of the activities scheduled by the Cervantes Commission400 Region of Murcia, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the death of the writer, held last year.
The main thread of this exhibition is "La Gitanilla", one of the best known Exemplary Novels by Miguel de Cervantes, which tells the story of Preciosa, a beautiful, intelligent and funny gypsy girl, who enamored everyone with its beauty, discretion and artistic gifts, even to personages of high lineage.
At the end of the novel it is discovered that this girl was, in fact, Constanza, a girl who had been subtracted from some nobles of Murcia.
Thus, each of the artists of this exhibition shows their particular look at the female universe from one of the most interesting and well-known characters of the Cervantes work.
The exhibition, which can be visited until October 15 at the Museo Barón de Benifayó, is composed of works by Alfonso del Moral, Alfonso García Aznar, Ana Bernal, Antonio Tapia, Carlos José Pérez, Carlos Montero, Cristóbal Hernández, Gabi Guillén, Isabel Guillermo, Jean Carlos Puerto, Jesús Lorente, Jose Miguel Marín Guevara, José Semitiel, Julián Contreras, Kraser, Lucas Brox, Luis Marino, Maite Defruc, Manuel Páez Álvarez, Miriam Martínez Abellán, Nicole Palacios, Pablo Moreno, Patricia Gómez, Pérez Casanova and Piedad Martínez Torres.
