The Edukalo program, established five years ago in San Pedro del Pinatarse, is based on a program of socio-educational workshops, as well as academic and school monitoring.
The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the delegate of the Autonomous Federation of Gypsy Associations (FAGA) in Murcia, Juan García Santiago, today signed a collaboration agreement for the development of the educational support program Edukalo, in collaboration with the councils of Education and Volunteering.
Under this agreement, the Edukalo plan is included in the measures of the Municipal Plan for Prevention and Control of Absenteeism (PAE), through socio-educational workshops of six hours per week with a total of 20 Roma children and mediation with centers and families.
For the development of these workshops, which are held at the Center for
Leisure and Emerging Arts, FAGA has the collaboration of the Local Volunteering plan.
Thus, currently two volunteers collaborate giving different subjects in this activity.
The mayor said that the common objective of this initiative is to ensure the continuity of students in their studies and prevent situations of school absenteeism.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the secretary general of FAGA, Juan Fernández Gil, who has valued the continuity of the project in San Pedro del Pinatar, and the sociologist and promoter of Edukalo Nicolás Giménez, as well as the councilors of Education, Guadalupe García, and Citizen Participation, Fuensanta García.
